Pediatric Reading Program & Lending Library
The Pediatric Reading Program and Lending Library enriches the hospital experience for pediatric patients with books and magazines.
The collection features carefully chosen English and Spanish materials tailored to the interests and needs of young patients. Children are invited to explore the books and magazines by browsing independently, listening to stories read aloud, or reading on their own. This program offers a comforting and enjoyable distraction during their hospital stay. Books and magazines are accessible on colorful carts in the pediatric and adolescent inpatient units, as well as on shelves in outpatient waiting areas.
Volunteers, medical students, and hospital staff read to children and recommend books and magazines tailored to each patient’s interests. The Child Life Department lends its expertise by carefully selecting materials both for the library collection and for individual patients during their hospital stay.
The Pediatric Reading Program and Lending Library gladly accepts donations of new or gently used children’s and young adult books, as well as monetary contributions. All donations are tax-deductible and help bring joy to our young patients.
Questions about the program and library, donations, and volunteering to read with the patients may be directed to Maryann Kristan or Margie Dolinski at the CARES office.
