What does CARES stand for?

Is CARES registered under another name
Yes, it is officially registered as: CARES, Los Angeles County+USC Medical Center Auxiliary.
Is CARES a nonprofit organization, and are my donations tax deductible?
Yes CARES is a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization, and donations are tax deductible.
What does CARES do?
CARES’ mission is to benefit patients served at the Los Angeles General Medical Center by adding comfort to their hospital stay and providing services that help the patients access quality health care.
What is the best way to contact CARES?
Please feel free to call our office at (323) 409-6941 during normal office hours, and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have. CARES can also be contacted via email at lacusccares@gmail.com.
Where is your office located, and what are your office hours?
The CARES Office is located at 1200 N. State Street, Room 1900. Our office is located on the 1st floor of Old General Hospital. Our office is open Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
Does CARES offer services to other groups that are not affiliated directly with the Los Angeles General Medical Center?
No.
Does CARES reach out to the community and accept donations and volunteers to help with its mission?
Yes. Please refer to the website to get information on how to become a volunteer in the CARES organization. For additional information, contact the CARES office at (323) 409-6421. For the many ways that the community may contribute funds or in-kind donations, contact the CARES Office at (323) 409-6941.
Does CARES provide healthcare?
No. CARES does not provide healthcare, but you may visit the Los Angeles General Medical Center website for information.
May I call CARES directly to request assistance with financial needs?
Unfortunately, CARES only accepts referrals for assistance needed from the Social Work Department at the Los Angeles General Medical Center.
When is it appropriate to call CARES requesting information about CARES Child Care Program?
You may visit our Child Care Services section under What We Do, or you may contact the Child Care Office, Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at (323) 409-6976 or via email at cares-childcare@dhs.lacounty.gov.
Does the CARES Treasure Trove Thrift Shop purchase items to sell in its shop?
No. All the items the Thrift Shop sells are donations which are tax deductible.
What are the hours you receive donations?
Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. By appointment, call 323-409-6922.
What items will CARES Treasure Trove Thrift Shop not accept?
Large appliances, large furniture items, mattresses, computers, TVs, weapons.
Can donated items be picked-up?
No. We are sorry. CARES has no way to pick up your donations.
What type of donations do you welcome in the CARES Treasure Trove Thrift Shop?
Clean clothing, shoes, small appliances, toys, dishes, jewelry, books, DVDs, antiques.
CARES accepts donations and volunteers to help with our mission. All donations are tax deductible.
